Sues over fall

Antoinette Mullen, 324 Sand Pit Road, Mount Bethel, filed a civil action against J&R Slaw Inc., 438 Riverview Road, Lehighton.

According to the suit on July 22, 2013, the plaintiff was employed as a tractor trailer driver for F.T. Silfies Inc., of Allentown, and was delivering a load of slag to the defendant's precast concrete plant in Lehighton.

Upon arrival she was directed by an employee of the defendant firm to a silo and was shown what nozzle she should hook up to so that she could off load the slag.

A Carbon County drug dealer was sentenced to a long state prison term on Tuesday in the county court.

Ryan E. Wurst, 26, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve a total of 24 to 48 months in a state correctional institution by Judge Steven R. Serfass, who rejected a passionate plea from defense counsel for a county prison term or a reduced minimum sentence.

Wurst previously entered guilty pleas to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-heroin, and in another case to flight to avoid apprehension.

Six first-time offenders, five charged with driving under the influence, were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Tuesday by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete the program, or are revoked from it, they will face trial on all pending charges.

A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.

Three people facing criminal counts entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:

Jim Thorpe incident

Alison Nicole Monfre, 34, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count each of persistent disorderly conduct and harassment. A charge of simple assault was dropped.

She was arrested on March 13 by Jim Thorpe police for an incident at 46 Broadway. Police responded to the address for a report of a domestic incident. On scene officers found Shawn Kane.

A Lehighton man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Tuesday for his part in the operation of a methamphetamine lab.

He was one of five defendants in pending drug-related cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Mahoning incident

Todd Francis Cermak, 31, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of precursors and chemicals for a meth lab.
