Lehighton accepts resignation of assistant to the superintendent

Lehighton Area School District will soon be down one leadership position.

The school board on Monday accepted the retirement resignation of Mary Figura, assistant to the superintendent.

Figura’s retirement is effective June 4, after 1.78 years with the district.

Afterward, Director Joy Beers expressed her gratitude to Figura.

“Thank you, Mary, for what you have done for us,” Beers said.

Figura was hired in August 2022 at an annual salary of $117,000.

Previously, she spent nearly three years with the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District near Philadelphia, where she was hired as its first-ever assistant to the superintendent for management services.

Before that, Figura worked as director of curriculum, instruction and technology in the Pine Grove School District, and was also a K-5 elementary principal in Panther Valley.

Resignations

In addition to Figura, the board also accepted the resignations of SaraJean Rotenberger, middle school music teacher, effective June 13; Grace Sterling, elementary center cleaner, effective March 27; and Brienna Bartholomay, elementary center cleaner, effective April 12.

Middle school Principal Stephen Ebbert said Rotenberger did a phenomenal job at the middle school, was a great employee, and did a terrific job with the school’s music program.

Hires

The board also made several hires on Monday.

They include Jordan Cook, high school technology teacher, with an annual salary of $52,804.

The board also approved Bryanna Berger and Susan Stidham as substitute nurses.
