Heavy rains keeping Schuylkill Twp. road crew busy

Schuylkill Township supervisors reported that August had been a busy month for the road crew, which was dealing with the aftermath of the heavy rains the area has been experiencing.

Roadmaster Charles Hosler said the township workers have been busy trying to keep storm drains clear and repairing washouts along side streets. Additionally, the road crew is in the midst of preparing the township’s fleet of vehicles for the winter weather.

The supervisors approved the purchase of 300 tons of anti-skid material.

Township police Chief Frank DiMarco reported 29 calls for the police department in the month of August. DiMarco said he has also been issuing citations for high grass and high weeds, and other quality of life ordinance violations such as dilapidated buildings.

Supervisors heard from resident John Bashago, who noted that his garbage has not been picked up regularly due to a neighbor’s hedges which block the access road and the garbage truck cannot get through. Bashago asked that the supervisors pursue having the property owner trim the hedges, as required by ordinance.

Supervisors also noted there was an executive session following their regular meeting on Aug. 6 and no action was taken following it.

The township will be participating in the Schuylkill County Fall Cleanup and Recycling Event during the week of Sept. 17.
