Barbershop quartet day celebrated

The Coalcracker Barbershop Chorus celebrated National Barbershop Quartet Day on April 11 by performing some of their favorite songs at St. Luke’s Miners Campus Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coaldale. Shown here, from left, are members Blake Tharp, Mike Kitsock, Al Hoffman, Artie DiCasimirro, Del Steigerwalt and Chris Metzger. At right with back to camera is director Larry Sabino. The chorus practices Mondays from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Tamaqua Arts Center and all are welcome to listen, sing along or get more information on how to become a member. In 2024, the chorus has sung the national anthem at Lehigh Valley Academy Regional School and Tamaqua Area High School. Members will also perform the national anthem at Reading Fightin’ Phils and Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs games later in the summer. The chorus will participate in the North Pennsmen 40th Annual Songfest in Sellersville and Tamaqua Summerfest, both in June, and is always looking to share its harmonies at nursing homes, schools and other community events.
