A 17-year-old male from Towamensing Township, Carbon County, is facing a charge of simple assault following an incident that occurred at 6:50 p.m. Nov. 6.

State police at Lehighton said troopers responded to Clarence Drive in Towamensing Township for a reported assault.

The victim, a 51-year-old woman, reported the teen had attempted to strangle her. She had injuries to her neck and throat.

The teen was taken into custody with charges pending through the county juvenile probation office. The teen was taken to the Lehighton hospital for a mental health evaluation, troopers said.
