Thorpe man faces felony theft charges

A Jim Thorpe man ended up in the Schuylkill County Prison on Dec. 28 after stealing a phone charger at the Dollar General store in Tamaqua.

Tamaqua Police were called to the store at 1213 E. Broad St. at 10:15 a.m. after a man stole a phone charger and left without paying for it. That man was Adam Schaeffer, 28, who was found in the area of Rock Hill Materials on Route 209.

Schaeffer told the officers he had pills and a syringe in his pocket. There was also a small bag containing a crystal like substance.

Due to his having two prior convictions for retail theft, Schaeffer was immediately arraigned on a felony charge of retail theft, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

Bail was set at $2,500 percentage, which he was unable to post.
