Pleasant Valley should Rethink athletics director move

To the Editor,

Making the Pleasant Valley’s athletics director job an administration position makes little sense. I have more than a casual knowledge of PV athletics. Two grandsons and a granddaughter played sports while attending Pleasant Valley.

The AD job at most schools Pleasant Valley’s size is a job, not a position. You don’t come to school at 8 a.m. with Brooks Brothers on. Some days start at 5 a.m. and could require three-plus hours of work before the teaching starts.

I have watched and worked with Jake Percey. I’ve been known to take a few photos of the kids in action. Jake is constantly on the move. His job includes engineering, plumbing, election, mechanics etc., you get the idea. Plus with Jake, you get two for the price of one. His wife, Paulette, is always involved. She does whatever.

I respectfully suggest that more thought be given to the AD position. If the decision is to hire a dressed-up administrator, the board will have to hire two more knowledgeable workers to do what Jake does now.
