Panther Valley wins Carbon County Academic Meet

On April 17, the Panther Valley High School Academic Team won this year’s Carbon County Academic Meet.

The students practiced after school throughout the school year under the guidance of their academic coaches, high school teachers Michele Martin and Chrisanne Powell.

Panther Valley’s team consists of eight members, juniors Charles Byers, Gianna Steber, Thad Karnish and Caleb Knepper; and seniors Amanda Fegley, Erica Tout, Chris Hoover and Rachelle Filer.

This was the 15th competition, hosted annually by the Weatherly School District. The Carbon County school districts participating this year were CCTI, Lehighton, Palmerton, Panther Valley and Weatherly.

After several rounds of questions, the top three scoring schools emerged: Palmerton, Panther Valley and Lehighton.

These teams then entered the championship round to determine the first-place winner.

The questions for this round were read by Steven R. Serfass, judge of Carbon County Court of Common Pleas. The judges for the meet were members of the Carbon Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

The Panther Valley School Board will be honoring the team at the school board meeting in May.
