The Palmerton United Veterans Organization has placed new flags on veterans graves at all Palmerton cemeteries (Bowmanstown, Church on Third Street, Sacred Heart, St. John's, St. Vladimir, Towamensing and Trachsville). If they missed your veteran or if your veteran's marker is missing, please contact Ed Moyer at 570-325-9657.SlideshowAt 6:30 p.m. Saturday,the Palmerton veterans will be hosting a free slideshow at the Palmerton Sokol Hall, 452 Lehigh Ave., Palmerton. The slideshow will be from the Vietnam era and presented by Ray "Buttons" Carazo, a Vietnam veteran. Ray will also be the main speaker at the Palmerton Memorial Day service.Parade and servicePalmerton's Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. followed by services in the Palmerton Borough Park. Ray Carazo will be the main speaker. In case of inclement weather, services will be held in the S.S. Palmer Elementary School.Flag disposal serviceAt 10

a.m.June 10 at the Palmerton VFW, 2020 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton, the Palmerton Legion will be having a service to dispose of unserviceable flags. If you have a flag that is worn out, you may bring it to the service for proper disposal.Jerusalem UCCJerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville will hold services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. This will be Memorial Day Recognition Sunday. Members and friends of the church who have served, (active, retired, or deceased) in any branch of the Armed Forces will be honored.Pool opensThe Palmerton Memorial Park Pool will open for the 2017 season on Saturday. Membership tags can be picked up at the pool office on or after opening day.They are looking for lifeguards, office and refreshment stand personnel. To be a lifeguard you must hold a current certification. All staff must be able to teach swimming lessons. All are invited to join together for a meal and fellowship.Food PantryThe food pantry for Palmerton Area families in need will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fridayat St. John's Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton.The CACPAC-sponsored pantry serves households in Palmerton and Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships, and the Palmerton Area School District including Bowmanstown.The food bank is in need of canned goods, nonperishable food items and monetary donations. If you can help, please bring items to any CACPAC member. Most area churches collect on a regular basis.Sunday school picnicThe Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Picnic Grove, 500 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville) located off Route 209 behind the Towamensing Fire Company will hold a Sunday school picnic on June 24, with a rain date of June 25.The picnic starts at noon with the service starting at 2 p.m. Old-fashioned cake walk, food and entertainment.
