New CLIU building under construction

Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 students will have a new early learning center location in Carbon County later this year.

The educational agency that serves school districts within Carbon County is currently preparing to lease a new 4,331-square-foot building in Franklin Township that is being outfitted specifically to meet the needs of CLIU’s early intervention programs.

Deb Popson, director of special programs and services, said that the new location at 750 Interchange Road is being built for the CLIU by Redline Associates, which will maintain ownership of the building since the agency is not permitted to own classrooms.

CLIU entered into a 10-year lease agreement with Wayne A. and June Redline for the site, beginning July 1 at the agency’s board of directors meeting on April 15.

Popson said that two class sites — one in Palmerton and one in Lehighton — will move into the location when it is finished in either August or September.
