Nesquehoning VFW Auxiliary meets

The regular monthly meeting of the Nesquehoning VFW Auxiliary to Post 8008 was held on Nov. 9, at the Post home with President Christa Kattner presiding.

There were two applications for annual membership that were approved.

General Orders 4 were read and filed for action. Thank yous were received from the VFW National Home and the Kattner family, along with a request letter from three local cheerleaders.

Under Veterans and Family Support, 164 cards and five books of stamps were sent.

A short ceremony was held on Nov. 11 at the WWI monument in New Columbus to mark the 100-year anniversary of the ending of the war. A volley was fired at exactly 11 a.m.

The Veterans Day Parade was held in Lansford on Nov. 11, with the Auxiliary and Poppy King Hayden Matula participating.

Fourteen entries were received for the Patriot’s Pen contest; there were no Voice of Democracy entries received.

The Hometown Heroes Banners will be taken down by the borough workers; a new letter is currently being prepared for applications for next year. Poles will be limited, so applications will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Under Community Service, 64 hours were recorded by those present.

District 20 met at the local facility on Nov. 18. Linda Paul was nominated and accepted the unfilled position of Trustee for Auxiliary 8008.

Donations were made to the Department Diabetes Research Fund, National Veterans Services and the Panther Valley cheerleaders trip to Florida. The annual Cancer Fund donation of $2 per member will also be sent in.

District 20 will hold its Christmas party at Split Rock on Dec. 8.

The Auxiliary’s annual Christmas dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12 at Lengyel’s Restaurant. All members are welcome to attend.
