Lower Towamensing discusses pension, honoring employee

The Lower Towamensing Township supervisors have adopted a pension resolution with the 3 percent employer contribution.

Supervisor Ron Walbert said this is something they have to do every year as part of renewing the pension.

The supervisors also discussed getting a plaque and planting a tree in remembrance of former employee Kathy Wallace. She was the longest employed worker of the township.

“She was just a very loyal employee,” Walbert said. “She was very dedicated.”

Walbert said the supervisors also discussed putting the plaque on the pavilion, because Wallace enjoyed using the pavilion at the park.

The supervisors also discussed purchasing a new plow. Brent Green, chairman of the supervisors, made a motion to allow Charles Shupp, the road foreman, to negotiate the purchase of a plow from Pencor. The purchase is not to exceed $3,500.

The supervisors approved the plow and discussed purchasing a new truck. They decided to look into the costs and will discuss it at a future meeting.

“We could use a full-size truck that would be able to plow snow and haul,” Walbert said.

He said it would be more than a year before the township would get another truck. But they need to begin planning in order to determine the size of the truck they need, the engine size and the body type. Once they get the specifications, then they can put it out to bid.

The supervisors also agreed to have a perc test done at the park. Walbert said they want to have a site selected in case they would ever need to install a new restroom facility.

“Presently, we have a system that is very good, but we want to find another suitable site to make sure that we keep it undisturbed,” he said. “It’s a progressive move.”

The board will accept bids for road materials and open the bids at 10 a.m. March 11 at 10 a.m. at the municipal building.
