Am I the only one who sees the irony in hundreds of newspapers all publishing like-minded editorials on cue? While I only read a few, the common thread seems to be, “We are the good guys. Honest, we really are.” And, “We really are all independent thinkers. Honest, we really are.” (Irony noted.)

Over my 78 years I’ve come to realize that the more strident and righteous the plea, the more hollow it likely is. “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

Just for the record I agree with the spirit of the editorials, it’s the actuality that gives me pause and concern.
