Franklin Township supervisors

Franklin Township this week approved the Volunteer Credit Service Program,which provides tax credits for volunteer fire companies and nonprofit emergency services.

In other business:

• No bids for 10,000 gallons of 87 octane no-lead gasoline at the pump (at the pump prices in effect March 16, 2018; escalator clause in effect).

• Motion passed to purchase 87 octane lead-free gasoline at Frank’s Service Center.

• Motion passed to advertise an ordinance which establishes a temporary designated area for the exclusive use of children 15 years or under to fish at Phifer’s Ice Dam.

• The purchase of two laptops, with accessories for the Franklin Township police cruisers was approved. An estimated cost of $14,730.70 includes the computers, accessories and installation fees.

• Bids will be sought for landfill services and will be opened at the April 17 meeting.

• The building code officer will be directed to prepare a report in connection with the litigation against Theresa Berger.

• The Franklin Township Athletic Association Auxiliary meeting dates for the year of 2018 were approved. Meetings will be held at the Franklin Township Administration Office.

• The Franklin Township Athletic Association coaches meeting dates for 2018 have been approved. Meetings will be held at the Franklin Township Administration Office.

• The Lehighton Softball League’s use of Bunker Hill Ballfield for the 2018 season, from the end of April to the end of August, has been approved pending proof of liability certification.

• Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company’s request to hold a live structure burn on March 24 using one house on the breast of the dam has been approved. All permitsand paperwork have been obtained.

• Robin Cressley has been appointed contact person for the CDL Program and Barbara Beltz is the alternate contact person.

• Franklin Township received a certificate of sustainability as 15,471 pounds of textiles were recycled. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has sent an email informing the township that they will be collecting traffic counts in the near future.
