Emmaus blasts Pleasant Valley

A banged up Pleasant Valley team took another beating Friday night.

Emmaus and its high-powered offense made quick work of the Bears, swarming early and often en route to a 56-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Ethan Parvel made quick work on offense by throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to Izaiah Mcpherson on a 51-yard opening drive, and the Hornets never looked back.

“Tonight was tough for us because we’re banged up,” PV coach Matt Kosciolek said. “It’s the worst possible time to be very thin. We’re super, super thin. A lot of young guys got a lot of time tonight. So one of the good things for us as a coaching staff is we got a lot of game film to evaluate some of those younger kids, and what we want to do now moving forward as we approach the second-half of the season.”

One player seeing very limited on-field time Friday night was senior Nasai Moon. Back-up running back Ahmad Wyatt led the Bears in rushing with nine carries for 34 yards. Turnovers also hurt Pleasant Valley, which fumbled the ball five times throughout the game. Kosciolek’s team struggled on kickoff returns and punts, counting for a few of the takeaways.

“Coming into the game, our opponents’ records are 9-3, so it’s not like we’re playing bums,” he said. “We’ve played some very good competition and we got a lot of great game film tonight to look at and approach the second-half of the season.

“The attitude the kids had tonight despite the score, that’s the kind of things that we’re going to build this program on. Just the attitude they had and we have some seniors that are great leaders and they showed it tonight. We didn’t quit, we didn’t fold. No one was crying on the sidelines; we kept playing and that’s going to be the season.”

Johnny Mitchell saw time in the backfield late and nearly scored a touchdown to get the Bears on the board. As Mitchell was barreling into the endzone, he fumbled the ball and was recovered by Emmaus. Pleasant Valley saw rotating running backs Friday night, anything coach Kosciolek can do with all the injuries on the team.

“We just have to find that gear. We can’t keep shooting ourselves in the foot,” he said. “The first half was obviously ugly. Special teams offense was ugly. If we can get rid of those mistakes, we can be a good football team.”

Many players got field time in the contest, especially Emmaus back-up quarterback Alex Lanzone. He completed all three of his passes for 22 yards and handed the ball off to Cole Scott for a two-yard score well after the Hornets pulled away from Pleasant Valley.

The starters for the Bears remained on the field to get more snaps under their belt and regroup from the first four games of the season. Pleasant Valley only has 14 points so far this season, both coming against Allen in Week 2.
