A Camp Hill resident was sentenced to a state prison term last Friday after pleading guilty to a theft charge.

He was among eight defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Lansford incident

John Stephen Murphy

, 42, was sentenced to serve 10 to 24 months in a state correctional institution. He was charged by Lansford police for an incident on March 24, 2018, in which he entered a home in the Lansford Court section and removed various video games.

Murphy is currently an inmate in the SCI at Laurel Highlands, Somerset County, serving a 30 to 72 month term imposed in Schuylkill County. Nanovic ordered Murphy to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and make restitution of $750.

The term runs concurrent with the Schuylkill County sentence.

Other pleas

Randy Stevens

, 26, of Walnutport, pleaded to one count of criminal trespass, a felony.

He was charged by Franklin Township police for entering the Schlier’s Towing property along Interchange Road on Feb. 26, 2016, and removing a dirt bike. He was previously placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating the terms.

He was sentenced to serve one to 18 months in prison followed by one year of probation, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and supply a DNA sample.

He was given credit for 42 days spent in prison on the charge and paroled.

Barry Eugene Meredith Jr.

, 26, of Newark, Delaware, pleaded to one count of theft. He was charged by state police at Lehighton, for his part in the theft of snowboards at the Blue Mountain Ski Area in Lower Towamensing Township. The incident occurred on March 8, 2014.

Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he render 20 hours of community service. The snowboards were recovered.

Hector Kevin Berrios

, 22, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of criminal conspiracy, engaging in theft.

He was charged by Beaver Meadows police for his part in the theft of rings from an elderly resident on March 8, 2018. His girlfriend, Alexis Hines, 19, also of Weatherly, was charged for her part in the theft. She is the granddaughter of the victim. She is scheduled to be placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on April 15.

The rings were pawned but later recovered by police.

Berrios, who was the boyfriend of Alexis Hines at the time, claimed she was the one who took the rings.

Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and make restitution of $56 to the pawnshop where the rings were exchanged for cash.

Schuyler M. Drake

, 26, of Lafayette, New Jersey, pleaded in two pending cases to counts of institutional vandalism. In exchange for the pleas, charges of resisting arrest and harassment were dropped.

Drake was arrested on May 5, 2018, when Kidder Township police were dispatched to the Big Boulder area for a domestic dispute. On scene Drake was identified by the female victim as the person involved.

When police took him into custody and placed him in a police cruiser, he damaged the interior and door of the cruiser. While at the police station, he put a hole in a wall in the holding cell.

Drake disputed the restitution for damages to the police cruiser, which were reported at over $5,000, but agreed to the damages to the holding cell, set at $850.

Nanovic placed him on probation for a year on the charge incident to the holding cell damage and ordered he pay the $850 damages.

Nanovic deferred sentencing on the police cruiser incident until the district attorney’s office can get an itemization of the damages to the car.

Marc Thomas Muffley

, 36, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense, with a charge of simple assault dropped by the DA,

He was arrested on Nov. 11, 2018, by Lansford police for assaulting a male at a residence along East Abbott Street.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $300.

DUI cases

The following defendants pleaded to driving under the influence charges.

Thomas David Rosevear

, 44, of Stroudsburg, was arrested on Sept. 2, 2017, by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Franklin Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so Rosevear can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Jordan Hughes

, 31, of Bangor, was arrested on Jan. 1, 2017, along Bridge Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He also pleaded to driving under suspension.

On the DUI charge Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and follow any recommendations of his drug and alcohol evaluation. On the driving under suspension count he was fined $200.

The term runs concurrent with a prison term Hughes is serving in Monroe County.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
