Second annual Give a Gobbler aims to give back to veterans at Valor Clinic

Turkeys and monetary contributions are sought during the second annual Operation Give a Gobbler in Carbon County.

The Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corp. has teamed up with Colossal Radio, Hofford Mill and the Pennsylvania State Police Troop N to give back to veterans at the Valor Clinic by providing them with a Thanksgiving turkey.

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, individuals and businesses can help the cause through a donation of any denomination gift card to a local grocery store or a frozen turkey at the Colossal Radio Studio inside Off The Charts Music School at 306 Delaware Ave. in Palmerton. Nonperishable food items can be dropped off at the Lehighton Borough Police Department.

The event will be broadcast live on Colossal Radio, according to Layne “Doc” Roberts.

“It’s something that I think it’s necessary, through no fault of our veterans, that they’ve had a lot of things taken away from them,” Roberts said. “I think this is just a small way that we can support our veterans; they’ve given so much, and it’s just a way to give back.”

PayPal donations can be sent to @CCEDC18235, cash and checks for the program can also be made to CCEDC - 137 South St., Lehighton PA 18235. Cash donations can also be made at The Hofford Mill in Weissport.

Donations of other food items including canned tuna, canned fruit and vegetables, peanut butter, meat-based soups with vegetables and beef stew will also be collected.
