Diamond Fire Company to raffle off 1983 engine

Those who have daydreamed of boasting their very own fire truck, now have a chance.

Diamond Fire Company of Walnutport is raffling off its 1983 Pierce Dash Fire Engine.

The raffle is meant to serve a dual purpose: enable the fire company to replenish its truck fund, and set the rest aside for its Summer Bash, according to Michael Wentz, fire chief.

“Realistically, we’re not going to make a lot of money,” Wentz said. “But, the money we will get from that, some of it will go back into our truck fund, and some of if for our Summer Bash.”

Wentz said the Summer Bash will be held June 28-30 at the fire company.

He said there will be 200 tickets sold, at a cost of $100 a ticket.

After the 200th ticket sale, or on June 29, or after all tickets are sold, the lucky winner will be drawn. Interested parties may visit Diamond Fire Company on Facebook to purchase tickets.

Wentz explained how the concept to raffle it off came about.

“Instead of us selling it, we saw other fire companies doing a raffle, they were successful,” he said. “We thought we should do a raffle and give somebody a chance to win a fire truck.”

Wentz said he wanted to give a special shout out to the Aquashicola Fire Company, which previously raffled off its 1989 KME Renegade Fire Engine.

He said the Summer Bash will be held in conjunction with the Diamond Fire Company Home Association, with June 28 slated to be the celebration.

At that time, Wentz said the fire department will dedicate its rescue pumper truck, its new squad truck, and the bell the fire department previously put back up.

“Everything is special because the rescue truck is going to get rededicated to the person it was originally dedicated to in 1996, the squad truck is going to be dedicated, and the bell is very special, and going to get dedicated.”

Wentz said they’re working on a plaque for the bell that will be dedicated in memory of all the active members of the Diamond Fire Company, as well as special friends who are no longer with us.

“We’re going to do a dedication, a memorial service, and as we read the names, family members, they’re going to ring the bell,” he said. “So, it’s going to be pretty significant; the dedication of trucks, dedication of the bell, we’ll have fire companies coming with trucks, there will be some judging, some awards.”
