Palmerton Car Show to be held Saturday in park

Car buffs in search of their favorite set of wheels ought to be in for a real treat.

Dads in particular can get an early start to their weekend courtesy of The Palmerton Car Show.

Hosted by the Pacemakers Association, the event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the borough park.

Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon, with a $10 registration fee. No cars will be accepted before 9 a.m.

Judging will be from noon to 2 p.m. and will be conducted by people with little to no experience, which is exactly the way it’s designed to be, according to Pacemakers member Terry Costenbader.

“Judging will be done by people in the community; some may have and some may not have any expertise as far as judging goes,” Costenbader said. “However, this is designed as a fun show.”

Costenbader said there are 26 different categories, and added the awards will be announced at 2:30 p.m.

Awards will be presented in the following categories:

Best Power Wheels (For Kids Only); Best Convertible; Boy’s Choice (Ages 13-16); Girl’s Choice (Ages 13-16); Best Paint Job; Best Pickup Truck; Best Graphics; Best Street Rod; Borough Council Choice (Chosen by a member of borough council); Mayors Choice (Chosen by the borough mayor); Best Grocery Getter; Highest 4x4 Truck (Ground to highest part of cab); Best Motorcycle; Best Rat Rod; Furthest Driven; Best Getaway Car; Best Engine; Best Interior; Best Tuner Car (Foreign or Domestic); Best “Under Construction”; Best Pro Street; Best Muscle Car; Best Corvette; Best Late Model (2000 and Up); Pace-Makers Association Award for the Most Vehicles by One Club (Monetary Award); and Oldest Vehicle.

Costenbader said the car show is a way for families to get together and spend quality time outdoors.

“We naturally didn’t run last year, and we’re looking for a good day; hopefully they’ll be people show up,” he said. “Without running a car show, we didn’t have a lot of groups looking for help and assistance with money so we didn’t make any money last year, but we didn’t spend a whole lot either.”

Costenbader said the event serves a special purpose, as the money that’s raised goes toward recreation for youth within a 6-mile radius of the borough. The organization has raised in excess of $88,000.

“We’re looking to get back to half normal, and having a good event,” he said. “We have a nice 10-acre park, and we have food (Dale’s Concessions); if you’re spending money in the park, that’s going to benefit us.”
