Panther Valley offers grief counseling

Robert Palazzo, principal of Panther Valley Elementary School, announced today that counselors will be available for children to talk about the death of their classmate.

Lansford Police said Ava Lerario was found dead with her parents, Marc Lerario and Ashley Belson on Tuesday.

They each died from gunshot wounds, according to the Carbon County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Robert Miller said the deaths of Belson and Ava Lerario have been ruled as homicide, while Marc Lerario’s death is still under investigation.

Palazzo said counselors will be available from 9 a.m. to noon Monday. Parents who wish to bring students are asked to park in the front lot and enter through the gym doors.

Counselors will meet one-to-one with students. Counselors will wear masks. It is up to the parents’ discretion about whether the students wear masks.

Anyone with questions is asked to email Mrs. Bales at balesd@panthervalley.org.

The couple and their daughter were pronounced Tuesday afternoon at 3:10 p.m., shortly after police were called to their home on East Patterson Street.

A woman who identified herself as Marc Lerario’s cousin created an online fundraiser to assist the family with funeral expenses.

She said her cousin suffered from mental illness and had struggled due to the recent death of a relative.

The fundraiser said the couple are survived by two children, ages 17 and 8.
