Teens slightly hurt in Route 209 incident

Four East Stroudsburg teenagers sustained what state police at the Stroudsburg barracks called “suspected minor injuries” in a crash at 1:15 p.m. Aug. 31 on Route 209 in Hamilton Township.

Police said a 16-year-old boy was driving a 2009 Ford Focus too fast for conditions when he lost control of the vehicle and it sideswiped a 2013 Ford Escape driven by Renee Bennett, 37, of Blairstown, New Jersey.

The Focus proceeded to strike the concrete median twice, swerved off the right shoulder of the road, struck a guide rail and rolled over into a body of water, coming to rest in an upright position. The vehicle needed to be towed from the scene.

Police said the driver was cited.

All of the occupants were 16-year-old boys. Only one of them needed to be transported to a local hospital via West End Ambulance.
