Slatington to host merchant events, cleanup

The Slatington Main Street Merchants Group announced it will host a First Friday every month following the success of last week's event. Businesses on the historic street will stay open later and offer specials or discounts to residents spending the evening in town.

Alice Wanamaker, member relations liaison of the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, announced the partnership between Slatington Parks and Recreation Commission along with the Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority and the Slatington Merchants Group to sponsor the sixth annual "Keep Slatington Beautiful," cleanup day April 22 from 9 a.m. until noon. Gloves and trash bags will be provided for the cleanup followed by a pizza lunch for anyone who volunteers. Anyone wishing to participate will meet at the borough maintenance building at 545 W. Church St.The cleanup will focus on Slatington Memorial Park, Slatington Trailhead, The Fish Pond, Victory Park, Walnut Street Playground, West End Playground, the Slate Heritage Trail from the Slatington Trailhead continuing westward to the Washington Township boundary line and Main Street.
