The Redball Military Transport Club had its annual winter swap meet Saturday at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe.According to event coordinator Jim Gilmore, "The swap meet had a really great turnout" with hundreds of visitors attending the swap meet throughout the day.Along with that good turnout, he said, "They had a good turnout of vendors and a good selection equipment and militaria for sale.""We had about a hundred tables of military surplus here and there was food available at the hall" with the food service being provided by students of the Carbon County Technical Institute's Culinary Arts Program and their instructor Chef A.J. Burke. The members of the Redball Military Transport Club collect, restore and show antique military vehicles both for the enjoyment of it and also to remember and honor the members of our Armed Forces, past and present.Their vehicles represent military equipment from 1941 on up to the present day.The organization was established in 1992 and takes it's name from the WWII supply route known as "The Redball Express."The Redball Express kept Allied troops resupplied as they fought their way across France in 1944 in their attack aimed at the German homeland.Their actions during WWII were a vital contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany. When not working on or displaying their vehicles, members of the Redball Military Transport Club participate in parades, reenactments and civic and veterans events. For those who attended the Winter Swap Meet and for those who couldn't make it, the club will also host its annual Fall Rally and Swap Meet which will be held this year on Sept. 15 and 16 at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert. The September meet also features a large and varied display of antique military vehicles and equipment in addition to a large militaria flea market. For more information on that event and the Redball Military Transport Club, visit
