Washington adopts stormwater ordinance

Washington Township supervisors appointed Lynne Fedorcha to the Slatington Public Library board.

The township adopted an ordinance which would have the township rather than the county review the effect of stormwater on erosion. With the township doing the review, zoning officer Todd Weidman said the process would be completed faster.A resolution was presented to purchase preservation rights to farms. The two presented were from Harriet Herb, 93.56 acres at $1,730 per acre for $161,858. The second was for Paul Bachman, junior and senior, 92.7 acres at $2,060 per acre for $190,962.Both residents want the land preserved rather than risk it going to a developer.Chairman Josh Friebolin said the township does not have that much money on hand, but was open to negotiations. A motion was made to reject the resolution.Slatington borough made a change for the Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority. The new wording was accepted by Washington to make a change to the Articles of Incorporation which would make the authority a nonprofit.A resolution was accepted to set the millage at 0.3 mill, a long-standing rate, Friebolin said.Charges for real estate tax certification are now $20 and duplicate bills are $5. Previous tax collector Sally Mantz recommended the change.Diane Conklin was named as part-time assistant secretary-treasurer and earned income tax officer. She will earn $17 per hour without benefits.Erin Stenger-Guth was named to replace JoAnn Ahner, who is resigning at the end of January. She will be secretary-treasurer.
