No judging for first time at McAdoo AACA car show

For the first time in its 30 years, the Anthracite Region Antique Automobile Club of America Car Show held Sunday in McAdoo was declared a "no judging" event.

Instead, event organizers decided to present special participation awards to the first 200 preregistered vehicles. In the past, prizes were awarded in 36 classes. However, club members felt a new format might be more desirable, and in keeping with a new trend seen at some car shows.Special awards went to AACA senior and first junior entries, along with the Sonny Kress Memorial Trophy, and best of show stock and modified. The event, hosted at the Tri-County Little League Field, South Hancock Street, capped off the Independence Day weekend for hundreds of local car enthusiasts and visitors from as far away as New Jersey and New York.Among the local favorites: a 1946 Hudson owned by Dan Zaprazny, New Ringgold, a 1950 Ford owned by Russell Yallas, Hometown, and a 1949 Ford pickup, one of two entries of Charles Lech, Tamaqua.Lech's pickup also captured the People's Choice Award on June 21 at Tamaqua Summerfest.
