Video on Red Cross detachment

The Monday, March 10 meeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society will feature a historic video on The New Jersey Zinc Company's Red Cross Sanitary Detachment.The video has been reformatted from an early 16-millimeter film. A brief business meeting begins at 7 p.m., followed by the video. The public is welcome. There is no charge.NJZ exhibit continuesThe Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave. (the former Tommie's), is continuing to feature artifacts and photographs of the New Jersey Zinc Company never before seen by the public.The center is open Wednesday through Saturday each week, except holidays.Phone 610-824-6954 for a recoding listing hours each day. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.Successful blood drivesGood weather on Monday, Feb. 24 helped to draw 69 potential donors to the Miller-Keystone community blood drive at the First United Church of Christ. A total of 12 units of blood fractions were obtained from five donors, and 54 units of whole blood were donated.This drive was sponsored by Adam and Lori Matik, and Audrey Larvey.Various gallon levels were reached by the following donors: John Cebrosky, Jr., 18 gallons; Mary Elizabeth Cyr, 13 gallons; Delphin George, seven gallons; Brian Wanamaker, five gallons; Barry George, four gallons; Jean Billig, three gallons; and Tara Wargo, two gallons. There were five first time donors.Many volunteers were involved in making the drive a success.They included Pam Andrews, George Ashman, Mary Beth Beers, Harry Brown, Marian Carty, Jane Cervenak, "Honey" Cyr, Thomasine Falcone, Jean Fritzinger, Jean Halmi, Anita Harry, Betty Hartman, "Bif" Hayes, Roseann Heydt, Anastasia Hinkle, Marian Hoffner, Bernice Kleintop, Nancy Kresge, Shirley Neff, Helen Nonnemaker, Chris and Susan Olivia, Carol Papay, Evelyn Plechavy, Marge Porambo, Gwen Rodrigues, Terri Sebelin, Betty Steigerwalt, Susan Steigerwalt, Mary Taschler, Annette Wargo, Tara Wargo, Brenda Wentz, and Joan Wivell.Miller-Keystone also conducted a blood drive at Palmerton High School on Feb. 25.
