Medicare comparisons

The Monroe County Area Agency on Aging APPRISE program will have free plan comparisons for Medicare beneficiaries. Limited appointments will be taken at Kinsley's ShopRite Community Room, Brodheadsville, from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Blood drive

Wawa in Brodheadsville is the site for a blood drive from 1-6 p.m. Thursday. To schedule an appointment, call 800-RED-CROSS

PVMS meeting

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PAC/PTO will meet at 2 p.m., Thursday at the middle school.

PV School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is slated to meet at 8 p.m., Thursday in the district's administrative office.

International Games

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, will host International Games Day from 9:30 until 3:30 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call the library at 570-992-7934.

Lioness meet early

Western Pocono Lioness Club will hold its November monthly on Nov. 19, for a Harvest Festival at the American Legion in Gilbert. The covered dish meal will begin at 6 p.m., followed by guest speaker Mark Bayles. He will be speaking on the Valor Clinic Foundation. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Troop 98 activities

This month Scouts were involved in the Scouting for Food on two weekends. On Nov. 2, they delivered the hang tags and this past Saturday they picked up the donated foods and took the items to the PVEN.

Items needed

The PVEN is in need of infant and toddler snowsuits and winter coats; men's winter coats; boys clothes (especially jeans) size 4-18; men's sweat pants, all sizes; and T-shirts, sizes XL and XXL. Donations may be dropped off at the PVEN on Greenview Drive in McIlhaney Tuesdays from 9:30-11 a.m., or by other arrangement. The PVEN can be reached at (570) 992-3136.

Special program

Chestnuthill Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville, will hear a presentation on: The Aging Brain We Can Get Older and Better! at 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20. It will be presented by Carolyn Jones, RNC, MSN/MBA of Bright Star Care.

Child adoption info

Child adoption and foster care information will be available at the Western Pocono Community Library on Wednesday, Nov. 20 throughout the day. The library is celebrating National Adoption Month.

Giving blood is an ongoing event at WPCL, every Wednesday. The Miller-Keystone Blood Center collects blood platelets and whole blood from noon until 6 p.m. Call 1-800-223-6667 to make an appointment.

Free dinner

Pleasant Valley Community Outreach offers a free dinner each Monday from 4:30-6 p.m. at the church, 1086 Weir Lake Road, Brodheadsville.

On Nov. 25, they will celebrate Thanksgiving with a complete Thanksgiving dinner. They will also be providing clothing to those in need.

Thanksgiving dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace will host its community meal for Thanksgiving from 3-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24. Participants are requested to call the office at 610-681-6137 to register.

Thanksgiving service

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will host a Thanksgiving service at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 24, at Salem UCC in Gilbert. Canned goods, ham or turkeys for the PVEN, or even a monetary donation will be appreciated, with all received gifts going to the PVEN, to be distributed to clients on or around the normal PVEN Thanksgiving distribution.

Thanksgiving feast

Effort United Methodist Church is hosting its seventh Community Thanksgiving Feast on Thanksgiving Day. It is available to those who could use some fellowship to share the holiday or may not quite be able to provide a full feast for their loved ones. Fellowship Hour with light refreshments will begin at 2 p.m., followed by opening prayer, dinner and dessert. Seating is available for 100 people.

Those planning to attend are asked call the church office at 570-629-1890 for more information, or to reserve a spot. Reservations are not required, but are appreciated. All are welcome.
