Schuylkill driver facing DUI count

Published June 25. 2013 05:03PM

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a traffic stop, and an assault count stemming from a domestic dispute.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Stephen J. Weiss, 40, of 13 Knotts Road, Schuylkill Haven, Wayne Township, was stopped about 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, along Schuylkill Mountain Road, just east of Municipal Road, in Wayne Township. Troopers said his vehicle was stopped as it matched the description of a vehicle being operated by a person wanted in a domestic assault that had just occurred.

Weiss was found to be under the influence and was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.

The domestic incident involved Weiss and a 40-year-old female, not identified by troopers, and occurring at his residence. In that incident a dispute turned physical when Weiss allegedly struck the female with his vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Trunda truck, causing her to fall to the ground. She sustained minor injuries.

He was charged with aggravated assault for that incident. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge David Plachko, of Port Carbon, and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
