Carbon County students were recently recognized for their poster designs during the Carbon County Conservation District's 38th annual poster contest. The awards presentation was held at the Carbon County Courthouse.
The annual Conservation District Poster Contest provides kindergarten through 12th students an opportunity to convey their thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues through art. It also highlights the educational outreach efforts of conservation districts and their state conservation associations, auxiliaries and agencies.
This year's theme was "Where Does Your Water Shed."
Josiah Behrens, district chairman, welcomed the group of students and families and Audrey Wargo, district secretary, presented the awards. Wargo told the students that they should be proud of their hard work, and she thanked the parents and the teachers for encouraging their children. Winners each received a certificate, ribbon and small monetary prize.
Wargo then noted that the first place winning posters will be sent to the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, where they will compete on the state level. For the past two years, two of the poster winners won at the state level and were entered into the National Association of Conservation Districts' contest.
