An aircraft building company is interested in the Lehighton area as a site for a future plant. Joseph Kovatch, president of the Lehighton Area Chamber of Commerce, told the Chamber that the Bede Aircraft Company of Charlottesville, Va., has met with a committee of the Chamber and detailed the plans for such a plant. The purpose of the plant would be to manufacture kits for purchasers to construct BD-5D model aircraft, a small, single occupant plane. It was noted that the local area would have to raise about $685,000 to help finance the Bede Company.
