The Carbon Model Railroad Society will hold its open house at 529 Ore St., Bowmanstown, on Thursday, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, 20, and 27, 2012, and Jan. 3, 2013, from 7-9 p.m. It will also be open Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 24 and 25, Dec. 1, 2, 8, and 9, 2012, and Jan. 5 and 6, 2013, from 1-5 p.m. The main "HO" scale display is in various stages of completion and is an excellent learning tool.
On the second floor, the clubs portable "HO" and "N" displays will also be in operation. Admission is free.

The Palmerton Area Historical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting in the Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12. A brief business meeting will be held, followed by the program. A DVD entitled "Palmerton - The First Hundred Years," which has never before been shown in public, will be presented. Former Palmerton resident Joe Bakos has done his own photography, voice overs, and music. This will be appropriate for the closing of Palmerton's centennial.
The Palmerton Veterans Memorial dedication will be held on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, starting at noon.
At 2 p.m., Palmerton will host the Carbon County Veterans Day Parade. The rain date is Sunday, Nov. 18.
Palmerton High School Blood Drive
In spite of limited recruiting because of missed school days caused by Sandy, 30 Palmerton High School students and faculty registered for Miller-Keystone's Nov. 5 blood drive, and 26 units of blood were collected.
The following National Honor Society students helped with recruiting, registration, and general assistance: Brianna Bush, Amy Hudock, Erika Hudock, Katie Pielmeier, Alexandria Quinn, Kyla Rodrigues, and Laurel Seemiller.
There will be another blood drive at PHS in February. The next Miller-Keystone community blood drive will be on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
At 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, the Palmerton Area Library board of directors will meet at the library. This meeting is open to the public.
