A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 8:57 p.m. on Friday, May 11, along Mount Laffee Road, in New Castle Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said a 1993 Ford Explorer was driven westbound and went across the eastbound lane and almost struck another vehicle.

The Ford then went onto the berm and struck several small trees before rolling onto its passenger side.

The driver was identified as Michael Robert Thomas, 27, of Ashland. He told troopers he had consumed a rum and coke and took prescription pills prior to the crash. He was taken to a Pottsville hospital for a blood test.

Troopers said charges will be filed.
