A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 11:45 p.m. on Friday, March 9, along Valley Road, in Cass Township.

State police at Frackville said Jason Engleman, 22, of Pottsville, was driving a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis westbound when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car. The vehicle entered the eastbound lane and began to spin clockwise and then went onto the berm.

The vehicle hit a fence at 949 Valley Rd. and then a large tree with the driver side door.

Engleman was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. He was flown by Lifeflight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. A passenger, Lori Chylack, 23, of Saint Clair, was injured and taken by ambulance to the Schuylkill County Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville. Damages were termed heavy to the vehicle. The roadway was closed for about two hours.

Troopers said Engleman was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. A DUI charge is pending blood test results, troopers added.
