A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a crash that occurred about 5:33 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, along Industrial Road at Altamont Blvd., in West Mahanoy Township.

State police at Frackville said Mitchell Kleman, 25, of Frackville, was driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla westbound and approaching the intersection with Altamont Blvd., when he failed to negotiate a right curve. The car exited the road onto the south shoulder where it traveled about 40 feet through grass colliding into a tree.

A passenger, Jessica O'Boyle, 24, of Ashland, was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of what troopers called moderate injuries.

Kleman and another passenger, Monica Weikel, 22, of Lavelle, were transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries and released.

Kleman was found to be under the influence and submitted to a blood test. Charges will be filed against Kleman, troopers said.

Damages to the Toyota were termed major.

Troopers also reported on a crash probed on Wednesday, Feb. 29, about 11:57 a.m. at the on-ramp to Interstate 81 in Kline Township.

Troopers said Minh Q. Pham, 41, of Castro Valley, Calif., was operating a 2000 Kenworth tractor with trailer southbound and attempted to negotiate a left curve at a speed too great for road conditions. Troopers said the road was snow-covered at the time.

The rig slid off the road and in the dirt for about 80 feet before it overturned onto the passenger side.

Pham was not injured. He was cited for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed and accidents involving overturned vehicles.
