The Kiwanis Club of Carbon County received its charter at a dinner meeting held in the Mahoning Valley Country Club. About 180 people were in attendance. The charter was presented to James V. Macalush Jr. of Lake Harmony, president of the Carbon County Kiwanis Club, by Edward F. Brent of Williamsport, Kiwanis district governor. Brent pointed out that the "first objective of Kiwanis is to exemplify the moral and religious, rather than the material things in life."
