Artist Kerry Dowd, Tamaqua, paints an elaborate butterfly design on the face of Rose Reid, Hometown, during Sunday's Rush Township Bicentennial Celebration held at the municipal building on Route 54, Hometown. Reid and friend Abby Billig, Hometown, took part in face painting fun as a way to beat the doldrums and brighten a stormy weekend that resulted in a near-complete breakdown in electronic communications - no cell phone service, no television service, no Internet, and no electricity in many part of Rush Township and area.
