Shade Tree news

The Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will be conducting the fall tree plantings on Oct. 28-29. The commission is also planning to continue its maintenance program on existing trees in the parks.

Volunteers are always welcome on planting days, as well as helping with maintenance.

Anyone interested in planting a street tree in front of their property, purchasing a memorial tree, volunteering, or making a donation to the Shade Tree Commission's efforts, may call John Kupec, 645-9644, Mary Helen Shelton, 645-5250, or Lou Vermillion, 645-9772.

Trick or Treat

Summit Hill Mayor Paul McArdle has announced the townwide Trick or Treat Night will be held on Monday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. Residents welcoming children to their homes are asked to have their properties well-lighted.

McArdle said additional police shifts will be assigned in order to help make sure the safety of the children is maintained. In addition, members of the fire department, fire police and American Legion Post 316 will be patrolling the streets to help make the annual event a safe one.

Upcoming meetings

The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.

A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.

The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the session.


Bloodmobile plans

St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will sponsor a visit to town of the Miller-Keystone Bloodmobile on Monday, Oct. 17. The bloodmobile will be held in the church hall from noon to 6:30 p.m.

Miller-Keystone is the only provider of blood to the area hospitals, including St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, and the Palmerton Hospital.

NCFC auxiliary

The members of the New Columbus Fire Company Auxiliary will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in the fire hall. Gerry McConnon will preside. The hospitality committee will be Rosemary Coniglio and Connie Budusky.

Lions club

The meeting of the Nesquehoning Lions Club will be held on Monday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lions Club building.
