Flood buckets

Effort UMC is making up cleaning buckets for those who have been impacted by flood or hurricane within the United States.

For particulars of items needed, including the resealable five-gallon bucket and its contents of cleaning supplies as well as sizes and kinds, one can call the church office at (570) 629-1890.

Chestnuthill open house

The Chestnuthill Elementary School in Brodheadsville will host its open house tonight from 6-8 p.m.

Zion Seniors

Eleven a.m. is the time for the Zion Senior Citizen's meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15. Participants are reminded to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.

Church baby shower

The Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace is holding its annual baby shower.

Baby items including all size diapers and wipes may be dropped off on the designated table in McCawley Hall. Monetary donations can be made payable to Catholic Social Services, in envelopes marked Baby Shower. They can also be placed in the offertory collection.

These items will be delivered after the Altar and Rosary meeting on Monday, Sept. 19. Parishioners and friends are invited to join the group for the 7 p.m. Mass in the chapel followed by the rosary.

Lions greet major

Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Ye Olde Saylors Inn. The guest speaker will be Major Jim Gingrich of the Salvation Army.

Upcoming events for the club include taking seniors out to see the fall foliage on Saturday, Oct. 8, and a blood drive at the American Legion in Gilbert on Nov. 6.

Diversity Task Force

Pleasant Valley School District's Diversity Task Force will meet at the district office in Brodheadsville, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Harvest Home

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will hold its Harvest Home celebration at both the 8-10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, Oct. 2. Any donated nonperishable food items and garden fruits and vegetables will be given to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network for its food pantry.

The roster of clients continues to grow, making the needs ever greater.
