Wire falls, short circuits town's power

A power line came in contact with a live power line on Third Street, causing Palmerton residents to be without power Tuesday morning.

The incident, which occurred about 10:10 a.m., left borough residents without power until about 11:50 a.m., according to borough manager Rodger Danielson.Danielson said crews were removing some of the old lines that previously ran between the east and west plant of the New Jersey Zinc Company when a wire fell and shorted out other wires."It was a large part of the town," Danielson said. "The West End did keep some of their power; even some of the ones on Lehigh, our garage kept their power."Lower Towamensing Township residents were also without power during that time.
