Tamaqua driver facing DUI count

Published May 06. 2011 05:00PM

A Tamaqua driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) in Nesquehoning.

On April 9 about 9:26 p.m. Officer Thomas Kurtz was on patrol along SR54 when he observed a vehicle traveling in the northbound lane and then entered the southbound lane almost striking the patrol cruiser.

Kurtz tunred his vehicle around and pursued the vehicle, which had now increased its speed. Emergency lights and siren were used by Kurtz to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped in the 200 block of W. Catawissa St.

The driver was identified as Robert James Farber, 40, of 421 Glenwood Ave. He showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests. He was then placed under arrest and taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for a blood test. The test results resulted in a .13BAC.

In addition to the DUI charge Farber was also charged with motor vehicle code violations of careless driving and no passing zones.
