State police at Lehighton reported investigating two burglaries - one in which all terrain vehicles (ATV) were stolen and one where considerable damage was done to the home.

The break-in involving the ATVs occurred at the property of Walter Hill, HC1 Box 74, Mountain Road, in Saylorsburg, Ross Township, Monroe County. Entry was gained to the property by unknown means sometime between 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, and 7 a.m. Thursday. Several out buildings on the property were entered.

Removed was a 2007 Kawasaki, red in color, and a 2008 Suzuki King quad.

Troopers said the residence of Joan Mertz, 64, along Wintergreen Road, Lehighton, Towamensing Township, was entered sometime between July 16 and 19. A window was smashed to gain entry.

Once inside the criminals ransacked the home, smashing glasses and plates. They also damaged walls in a bedroom by throwing items against it. They then opened two paint containers and proceeded to throw paint at the garage walls. No damage estimate was given.

Anyone with information concerning either incident is asked to call troopers at (610) 377-4270.
