Area woman celebrates 90 years

Jean Towle, a resident of Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, was the guest of honor at a 90th birthday party held Sunday afternoon in the center's activities room.

Towle was born Feb. 6, 1921, and worked at the Pottsville Journal prior to her marriage.

She is well known for her community involvement in the Tamaqua area and, in particular, her loyal support of the U.S. Armed Services and veterans' groups.

She is the daughter of the late Gus and Lenora Knies and widow of Royal C. Towle Sr.

Towle has a daughter, Jean Ann, and grandson Michael, both of Tamaqua.

A son, Royal Towle Jr., passed away January, 2007.
