Pleasant Valley school appoints H. Charles Hoffman as board treasurer

The Pleasant Valley School District's board of directors approved the 2010-11 PVSD K-12 student/parent handbook with one "no" vote from James Spinola.

A motion was made to appoint H. Charles Hoffman for the board treasurer and was approved.Dr. Douglas Arnold, PVSD superintendent, said he received a letter from Theresa Yocum, mother of senior Kelsey Yocum. She wanted the district to know how very much she appreciated everything teacher Amy Miller did for her daughter, working with her to earn a GPA of 85 percent and that she was an inspiration.Board member, MiChelle Palmer, told the board and audience, if they got a chance, visit Pleasant Valley Intermediate School to see the art work on display because "It's wonderful."Mr. James Storm, PVI principal, praised PVI teacher, Susan Featro and students for their work in fundraising for local animal shelters.Featro worked with an East Stroudsburg University professor in applying for a grant to do a service learning program with components of fundraising and educational assemblies. PVI students raised $2,000 and received lots of pet supplies that they donated to Waggin' Tails and Carbon County Friends of Animals. LINDA KOEHLER/TIMES NEWS Noah Neubert, a student in Mr. Connell's fourth grade class and Makayla Sprague, a student in Mrs. Principe's first grade class, were recognized for their recent accomplishments. Noah, the son of Lisa and Brian Neubert of Saylorsburg, won second place for his art work for "Life Behind the Cones and Barrels" by the American Traffic Safety Services Foundation of the Pennsylvania Chapter of American Traffic Safety Services of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Makayla, the daughter of Sherri and Michael Sprague of Saylorsburg, received an honorable mention for her artwork in the Monroe County Dental Society poster contest. Both are students at Eldred Elementary.
