Mahanoy Area School District was successful in having the Schuylkill County Assessment Appeals Board increase the market value and assessment on 10 properties in the boundary of the school district.

Appeal hearings are being held at the courthouse in Pottsville. The new assessments will be applied to 2011 real estate taxes.Gary and Linda Marchal, 204 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, owners of property at 21 Pear St., Barnesville, Ryan Township - market value was increased from $101,971 to $187,200 and assessment from $50,985 to $93,600, an increase of $42,615 in assessment.Earl Horst and John Horst, 1010 Spruce Lane, Tamaqua, owners of property on the north side of Plantation Drive, Phase II in Magnolia Garden Subdivision in Ryan Township - market value increased from $13,720 to $20,800 and assessment from $6,860 to $10,400, an increase of $13,540 in assessment.Jesse Streward and Danielle Eichert, 1014 Barnesville Drive, Barnesville, Ryan Township - market value increased from $60,890 to $91,520 and assessment from $30,495 to $45,760, an increase of $15,315 in assessment.Gregory R. and Beth Ann Yanchuck, owners of property at 74 S. Main St., Mahanoy City - market value increased from $99,020 to $155,500 and assessment from $49,510 to $77,750, an increase of $28,240 in assessment.Denise Louise Brandt, Lebanon, owner of a tract of land consisting of 612.96 acres on the south end of Fifth Street in Ryan Township - market value increased from $26,230 to $94,020 and assessment from $13,115 to $47,010, an increase of $33,895 in assessment.Frank and Ashley Russell, owners of property at 305 E. Pine St., Mahanoy City - market value increased from $15,910 to $33,280 and assessment from $7,955 to $16,640, an increase of $8,685 in assessment.Thomas and Cynthia Long, of 1135 E. Centre St., Mahanoy City, owners of property in Phase I, Magnolia Gardens Subdivision, Ryan Township - market value increased from $13,720 to $20,800 and assessment from $6,860 to $10,400, an increase of $13,540 in assessment.Mary Ann and David Jarrett, 210 E. Pine St., Mahanoy City, owners of property at intersection of Vilanova Avenue and Rosemont Avenue, Ryan Township - market value increased from $6,970 to $21,630 and assessment from $3,485 to $10,815, an increase of $7,330 in assessment.Matthew J. Tacelosky, owners of property at 121 S. Main St., Mahanoy City - market value increased from $23,800 to $24,960 and assessment from $3,485 to $10,815, an increase of $7,330 in assessment.Heriberto Vargas, owner of property at 430 W. Mahanoy Ave., Mahanoy City - market value increased from $90,210 to $131,040 and assessment from $45,105 to $65,520, an increase of $20,415 in assessment.Receive exemptionsAvenues, Pottsville, was successful to obtain exemption from taxes on a building at 80 N. Main St., Mahanoy City, which is being used for nonprofit purposes. It holds a head start program for 100 children between ages of 3-5.The school district received exemption from taxes on two buildings it acquired from the Roman Catholic Diocese in Allentown, located at 726 W. Center St. and 727 W. Market St., Mahanoy City.Haven appealsSchuylkill Haven Area School District won appeals on 12 properties in which assessments were increased for payments on 2011 real estate taxes. The total increase in assessments was $428,453.
