A Lansford newspaper man and a Palmerton school teacher were tied for first place honors in the spelling bee that was a part of the program at a frolic in the Mahoning Valley Country Club. They split the prize of $25. They are Edward Gildea of the Evening Record, Lansford, and Stanley Smith, member of the faculty of Palmerton High School. Tied for second place were Michael Casino, of the Evening Courier, Tamaqua, and Winifred Steigerwalt of East Penn Township.
