The Panther Valley JROTC will hold a meeting on Wednesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. in the classroom of the high school.


Lions Club

The members of the Nesquehoning Lions Club will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the club building. There will be no dinner at this meeting.

Free dinner

The free community dinner will be held on Wednesday, April 28 at the Meed's United Methodist Church from 5-7 p.m. The menu will be barbecue chicken, mashed potatoes, and baked beans. All are invited.


The Omega Health Screen performed by Quest Diagnostics will take place on Saturday, April 24 from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Lehigh Carbon Community College, 24 Locust St., Nesquehoning.

The cost is $50 and covers numerous tests. Please call 1-800-776-6342 to register from Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

VFW auxiliary

The 61st Anniversary Dinner of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will be held on Thursday, April 22, at 6 p.m., at Macaluso's in Nesquehoning.

Reservations can be made by contacting Maureen at (570) 669-9578. The deadline reservations is Sunday, April 18. Members and guests are welcome.

Area man participates in special Mass

A Chrism Mass was held on the Wednesday before Easter at the Cathedral of Saint Catherine of Siena in Allentown.

Taking part in the procession of oil and gifts was Frank J. Parano of the Carbon-Schuylkill Serra Club. Parano joined two other members to present the gifts

Priests from throughout the diocese took part in the Mass. On hand was Monsignor John B. McCann, who grew up in Nesquehoning, and will celebrate his 25th anniversary as a priest in September.

Summit Hill

Water authority

The Summit Hill Water Authority will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. John Michalik, president, will be in charge.

Presbyterian church

The schedule for the Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill, for Sunday, April 18, is as follows: junior choir, 8:45 a.m.; adult Bible class, 9 a.m.; Sunday school, 9:15 a.m.; and service of worship, 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Frederick Rogers, pastor, presiding. Child care will be provided.

Infant baptized

Cara Jane Rehnert, daughter of Christopher and Jennifer (Boyle) Rehnert, was baptized on Sunday, March 14, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill.

Methodist Charge

The schedule for the Summit Hill/Coaldale United Methodist Charge for Sunday, April 18, is as follows:

Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will preside at both services. The adult Sunday school will meet at 9:45 a.m. in the Coaldale church.


Slovak Ladies

The Frances C. Jakabein District of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association will hold its spring meeting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 25, in Macaluso's Lantern, Nesquehoning. Host branches will be Nesquehoning 410 and Hauto 414.

Members of the St. Ann Society of St. Katharine Drexel Church planning to attend should make reservations by calling President Veronica Bazik, (570) 645-5253.

Food pantry

The Lansford Food Pantry will be held on April 19 at St. Katherine of Drexel's Church Gymnasium from 9:30-11 a.m.

The pantry is a nonprofit organization that serves the residents of Lansford on the third Monday of every month. Anyone wishing to make a monetary or food donation may contact Betty Pearson at (570) 645-3416 or Beth Dailey (570) 657-7234.
