The Panther Valley JROTC will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. in the JROTC classroom. All parents are invited for election of officers.
PV Women's Club
The first fall meeting of the Panther Valley Women's Club was held at the Viennese Villa last week. President Linda Miller presided. Upcoming events and meetings were planned, and committees were formed. Activities were announced and the club is open to having speakers, or entertainment from the valley.
Any one interested in speaking or performing, should contact Vice President Sue Solt.
A Halloween party is scheduled for Oct. 26 at the Villa at 6:30. Members are asked to dress in costume, and prizes will be awarded. Canned and non perishable food will be accepted for the food bank, and items to be donated to the hospital fifth floor will be taken.
The club welcomes new members, and any questions can be answered by President Linda Miller at (570) 645-6162. The group meets the fourth Monday of each month unless a holiday is involved.
The next meeting of the ladies auxiliary to VFW Post 8008 will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m., at the post home. All members are cordially invited to attend.
The Nesquehoning Recreation Commission is looking for new members. Anyone interested may stop by the recreation center and speak with Pam during the bingo nights on Wednesdays, from 6-10 p.m.
The General Election in Carbon County and Summit Hill will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Last day to apply for an absentee ballot is Oct. 27.
Last day for the county Board of Elections to receive absentee ballot is Oct. 30.

A workshop on "parish hospitality" will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in the social hall of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford.
Sponsored by the Allentown Diocese Office for Social Action, the session is open to anyone who wants to share and discuss ideas and practices to help parishes reach out to "newcomers" and to those affected by the restructuring of parishes.

The schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Oct. 11, is as follows:
Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.
The adult Sunday school will meet at 9:45 a.m. in the Coaldale church. The children's Sunday school has been discontinued.
St. Joe's choir
The St. Joseph Catholic Church choir, Summit Hill, will hold its next rehearsal on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. in the church. Robert Ames, director, will be in charge of the session. New members are always welcome.
Summit Hill Boy Scout Troop 743 has changed the day of its weekly meetings. The scouts meet on Sundays at 6 p.m. at the former St. Paul United Church of Christ, Summit Hill. For more information, contact Scoutmaster Dave Vidzicki, (570) 645-2510.
