It could cost Palmerton Area School District over $366,000 to renovate its junior high school gymnasium.

The district received five proposals on Friday, in which CMG, of Easton, submitted the apparent low bid of $366,200 to do the work. That bid was $73,622 than the next lowest bid of $439,622, turned in by Ondra-Huyett & Associates, of Allentown.Other companies that bid were F.J. Lesher General Contractor, of Palmerton ($445,000); Serfass Construction, of Allentown ($533,500); and Bracy Contracting, of Allentown ($572,600).Along with their bids, each company also submitted a pair of alternates.Joseph Faenza, director of facilities, said he believes the project will bode well for the district."I think this will be another great facilities upgrade for the students of the Palmerton Area School District," Faenza said. "The project should start in May, and be ready for the start of the school year."The work is for a multi-prime contract for soil stabilization and renovations to the gymnasium, including demolition, concrete milling and overlay, new athletic flooring, telescoping bleachers, and finishes.Superintendent Carol Boyce previously said the soil under the floor will be stabilized, the floor leveled and recovered with a new athletic surface, the bleachers replaced, and the gym painted.Boyce said the project will be paid for from out of the district's $5 million bond that the prior school board agreed to borrow last fall.A contract for the project could be awarded at a special meeting of the school board on Tuesday.
