Tamaqua man charged after Lansford domestic case

A 31-year-old Tamaqua man is facing charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment after Lansford police responded to a domestic dispute involving multiple family members on East Water Street at 12:27 a.m. Dec. 24.

Police said Alexander Figueroa-Santiago, of the 800 block of East Broad Street, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Eric M. Schrantz after the incident.

Police said they were summoned to the residence where the complainant told them Figueroa-Santiago, intervened and restrained individuals who were involved in an altercation at the residence. Police said a juvenile told them the man punched him in the face/head and placed him in a headlock-style choke hold to the point the juvenile could not breathe and was believed to have blacked out.

Police said the victim complained of head pain/abnormal vision and was evaluated by emergency medical personnel. Further treatment/transport was refused, police said.

Figueroa-Santaigo was detained by officers and told them he intervened because the juvenile was being uncooperative and posed a threat to others in the home.

After speaking with other people in the home, who corroborated the juvenile’s story, police charged Figueroa-Santiago.
