Tamaqua district court

Two men had criminal charges bound over for hearings in Schuylkill County Court after preliminary hearings on June 27 before District Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua. One of the cases was heard before the judge, while the defendant in the other failed to appear.

John Kamant, 57, of Tamaqua, was in court to answer to charges of criminal trespass, simple assault and harassment. The charges were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Christian DeAngelo after a June 18 incident.Bail remained at $1,000 straight, which Kamant was unable to post. He was returned to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville.Justin D. Blume, 44, of Barnesville, failed to appear in court on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges were filed by Rush Township patrolman Ryan Oldt in connection with a May 16 incident.A bench warrant will be issued for Blume's arrest.All other defendants scheduled for June 27 hearings opted to waive their charges to the county level. They include:Michael G. Machay, 31, of Tuscarora, was charged with four counts each of improper use of an access device, access device use unauthorized by the issuer, possession of an unauthorized access device, theft by deception and receiving stolen property, as well as single misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. The charges were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Anthony Stanell after a March 13 theft.Machay was released on $10,000 unsecured bail;Nathaniel M. Lee Salter, 25, of Hawk Run, faces felony charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking, as well as misdemeanor charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and theft from a motor vehicle. The charges stem from a July 7, 2016, incident and were filed by Rush Township patrolman Oldt.Salter remains in the county prison in lieu of $50,000 bail;Norman G. Thomas Jr., 20, of Tamaqua, was charged with felony counts of possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and a misdemeanor count of driving without required headlights. The charges were filed by Coaldale patrolman Charles Blesse in connection with a June 9 incident.Thomas remains in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail;Carla Niedert, 59, of Nesquehoning, had a felony charge of witness/victim intimidation withdrawn and waived two counts of endangering the welfare of children. The charges were filed by Rush Township patrolman Bradley Hess after an April 20 incident.Niedert was released on $10,000 unsecured bail;Alberto Boza Lopez, 36, of Hazleton, faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, violating a hazard regulation and driving without a license, filed by McAdoo patrolman William Curilla. The charges stem from an April 8 incident.Lopez was released on his own recognizance;David R. Green, 65, of Tamaqua, was charged with defiant trespass by communication after a May 27 incident. The charges were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Rick Bekesy.Green was released on his own recognizance;Masiya Divine Caudle-Stone, 26, of Tamaqua, was charged with DUI of a controlled substance, failure to use low beams and driving without a license. He was charged by McAdoo patrolman Curilla.Caudle-Stone was released on his own recognizance.
